Covid is always on the mind lately – but it is still far from the only disease begging for attention. Over 420 million people around the world suffer from diabetes – mostly in poorer or lower income communities. In the meantime, 1.5 million deaths, every year, are directly attributed to the disease. And the numbers of affected only growing. In Israel alone, at least 1-million Israelis are projected to be diabetic by 2040. So, Bar Ilan University is now launching a major $75-million dollar project on combating diabetes – with a focus on the Northern Galilee region, where cases number nearly three times higher than the national average.
