Aryeh Deri did it again. The religious Shas-party chairman – concluded his latest legal battle with the state, over charges of tax and money laundering. But reaching a plea-bargain – Deri will likely admit to tax offenses, pay a fine of 180k shekels and resign from the Knesset. This, in exchange for the conviction dropping its charges of ‘moral turpitude’, which would have barred Deri from running again in the future. Again though, this is not Deri’s first charge. The Shas chairman was sentenced to prison for three years in 2000 for taking $155k in bribes. So, how exactly is this not ‘moral turpitude?’
