Chairman Mansour Abbas of the United Arab list, or Ra’am party, is making headlines with an apparent change of heart. Speaking to Globes-Israel, Abbas said that “The state of Israel was born as a Jewish state, and it will remain one.” And the comments similar to an Arabic statement he made a month ago. But this a far-cry from the supposedly default Arab-Israeli position, in that Israel should be a “State of all its Citizens” and not characterized as a Jewish state. So, where did this come from? And what will come of this next?
